ABOUT PROJECT:

An awareness campaign on the situation of girl education in India. The reasons that stop the girl child from accessing her right to education. Every girl child has an Ichha, a desire, to go to school, sit in a classroom, read from books, play with her friends and enjoy a childhood. But today there are many, many Ichhas that are yet to become a reality. You see them at railway platforms or traffic signals, working as household help or even in commercial establishments in your neighbourhood. Next time you find an Ichha, take a photograph and upload it. Your support will enable CRY in its campaign to ensure every girl child's right to an education.

*India:

-Where 7,50,000 girls are aborted every year

-Where 1 million girls disappear every year

-Where over 13, 49,007 girls (6-14 age group) are out of school

-Ranks 112 among 134 countries in World Economic Forum’s Gender Gap index of 2010

-Almost 3 in 4 female illiterates in the world are found in only 11 countries, India being one of them

And is it just about numbers??

Time to give these numbers a face….Photos capture many untold stories and history has mention of how this medium has positively influenced Policies. And hence CRY has planned a Pan India 40 day Campaign (August- October 2012) on Right to Education of the Girl Child to capture and highlight Factors / Reasons that keep Girl Children out of School

In this grim reality of status of girl child in India, in the context of Right to Education Act’s two year journey there lies a HUGE OPPORTUNITY for all of us to amplify the voices, concerns on the issue nationally!Geared towards roping in the urban citizens in the age group of 18-35 years…a critical step forward to usher in change….
