Blogs Karsh Kale @ Coke Studio India Posted
May 02, 2012 @ 00:00 am In one of the many candid moments at Coke Studio@ MTV's jam session with Karsh Kale and his crew, we're treated to a delightful musical face-off between Ajay Prasanna on flute and Karsh himself.
An accomplished musician, composer and producer, Karsh is universally considered as one of the pioneers of the Asian Underground movement. Karsh grew up in Queens, New York, and knew at an early age what it meant to stand out. His sound is often described as a blend of electronica, drum and bass with Indian classical music. He’s also a renowned able player and one of the founding members of the super group Tabla Beat Science featuring Zakir Hussain, Talvin Singh, Trilok Gurtu and Sultan Khan.
Apart from music producing, songwriting and DJ work, he excels in playing the tabla, which he incidentally started playing at the age of four. He started producing music and performing right from his days in New York University. He recently launched his fifth studio album Cinema, with an all new Indian band at Mumbai and Delhi. Due to his US upbringing, he was influenced by Eastern and Western music, resulting in the creation of a novel style, a fusion of electronic dance and Indian folk. His compositions have also been featured on the hit TV series True Blood and Real Time with Bill Maher. Microsoft’s Windows Vista also features two of his songs – Distance and One Step Beyond.
