It takes a lot to make others laugh. First you need some great on screen presence and a sense of timing.

7 Bollywood Actors With Amazing Comic Timing

Then, you’ve got to be ok with making a complete idiot out of yourself on screen while keeping a straight face. Meet these seven actors who are simply awesome in delivering comedy on screen.

Jhonny Lever

This list would just not be right if we did not start with the one and only John Prakasa Rao Janumala, more popularly known as Jhonny Lever. As an actor in a comedy role, Jhonny is perhaps the most noted and respected comedians in Bollywood. With a career that started in 1984, he has over 300 Bollywood films including 13 Filmfare nominations for best comedian to his credit. His sense of timing and method of delivering a dialogue has given birth to a whole new genre of comedians from India. ‘Babulal’, ‘Chotta Chattri’, ‘Aslam Bhai’, and performances in movies like ‘Tezaab’ and ‘Golmal’ remain some of his noted and most remembered performances. Plus who can forget the famous ‘Abba Dubba Jhubba’ dialogue?

Riteish Deshmukh

He may not have found success in playing a hero in a lead, but with 8 awards for ‘Best performance in a comic role’ [Zee Cine/ IIFA - 2004 to 2012], Riteish Deshmukh’s career in comedy has come of age! ‘Masti’ was the first film where his comic timing was recognized. He has, almost effortlessly if we may add, starred in many successful films such as Kya Kool Hai Hum with his ‘chaddi buddy’ Tusshar Kapoor, Bluffmaster with Abhishek Bacchan, Malamaal Weekly, Heyy Babyy, Dhamaal, Housefull 1&2, and of course Grand Masti. News is he is currently shooting for Dostana 2 and Humshakals!

Omi Vaidya

After his successful debut as ‘Chatur Ramalingam’ a.k.a ‘Silencer’ in the 2009 super hit 3 Idiots and having won 3 awards for the same role, Omi Vaidya, is now a household name. Besides delivering ‘chamatkari’ performances, he has also directed two short films and worked as an editor in over 5 movies. While ‘Dil to Baccha Hai Ji’, ‘Desi Boyz’ and ‘Players’ are movies he’s attempted a twist in comedy, it is his role as ‘Nano’ in the movie ‘Jodi Breakers’ that really stands out. We sure hope to see more of Omi in the days to come!

Arshad Warsi

You know we are talking about Arshad Warsi when you hear ‘Bole To Bhai! Kya Mamu?’  He is popularly known as Circuit, from the Munnabhai series - a role that defined his career. Since his debut in Bollywood with ‘Tere Mere Sapne’ in 1996, Arshad has starred in close to 40 movies. Recently, his roles as ‘Babban’ in the ‘Ishqiya’ series and his lead in Jolly LLB – released in 2013, have won him critical acclaim. Way to go Arshad!

Boman Irani

Boman Irani began his acting career in films as late as 2000. Before that, he was a theatre actor, a bakery owner and a professional photographer. Boman’s claim to fame is his role as Dr. J. Asthana in Munnabhai M.B.B.S which bagged him a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Comedian. Since then he has stepped into many comic roles in movies like a forgetful principal in Main Hoon Na, an overzealous gay boss in Dostana & a crazy father-in-law in Housefull 2. His comic timing is impeccable. So much so that he has hosted the IIFA Awards with actor Riteish Deshmukh for four years in a row!

Tusshar Kapoor

‘Aye O Ee, Aaoo, Aaye O’. Get it? He does. Tusshar Kapoor a.k.a. ‘mute’ Lucky from the Golmaal series is one character we all know. He is the son of Hindi film actor Jeetendra and Shobha Kapoor and brother to Ekta Kapoor [Balaji Telefilms]. While we made his debut [lead] in the film Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai opposite Kareena Kapoor in 2001, his career seemed to go nowhere till the Golmal & Kya Kool Hai Hum series came along. But then, he did not have to speak a lot either. His recent role in Dirty Picture with Vidya Balan has got critics talking though.

With over 100 films to his credit, Paresh has also been awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India. He is famous for his role as ‘Hasmukhlal – the man with the perpetual question mark’ in the Anik Kapoor starrer – Judaai & more recently, his role in ‘Oh My God’ has won him critical appreciation and accolades.
