7 Bollywood Movie Bloopers That Make You Wonder!
Posted On 24th March, 2014 @ 11:06 am by MTV EDITOR

We all love movies. And the art that surrounds it. But every now and then, you come across moments onscreen that make you wonder what on earth were the story tellers thinking? Yup! We are talking about on screen bloopers that film makers often tend to make in the name of ‘creative liberty’ in the hope that audiences will ‘adjust maadi’.

Well they don’t. Here are seven onscreen movie mistakes that will make you look at films more closely.

1. Kicking off the list is a scene in ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ starring Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma. While there are quite a few faux-pas in the movie [besides] blatantly drawing inspiration from Hollywood flicks for certain scenes, here are three that are worth mentioning. First, Anushka a.k.a Akira is shown jumping off a small cliff in the middle of a lake in her puma branded swimwear just after saying ‘jai mata di’.

What is confusing though is how she managed to get on the cliff in the middle of the lake without getting a drop of water on her perfect body? Second, in a conversation with Shahrukh, Akira tells him that she is National level swimmer. Really? How is it then that you almost drowned in the lake you jumped in and Major Samar had to rescue you? Huh? Third, a huge part of the movie is in flashback mode - more particularly the year 2002. If this is to be believed, then how would you explain communication for an ‘Ultrabook’ in the scene were SRK confesses his love for Katrina? Did they even have a product launch in 2002? Lol!

2. Next up, our very own, home grown Superhero ‘Krrish’ released as a sequel to Koi Mil Gaya. In the first of the trilogy, the moment dawns upon Rekha who still serves Krishna ‘Bournvita’ that it is time she told him the truth about how life in the city is dangerous and the story of his father’s mysterious disappearance. Here’ she mentions that Rohit (Krishna’s father) was away in Malaysia for a prolonged period working on a super-secret project. How then would you explain the fact that later in the conversation, Rekha informing Rohit on the phone that his wife, Preity Zinta (Krishna’s Mom) delivered a baby boy while he was away? Bit of a stretch, right? But then who can question the existence of a superhero in the first place? We simply love the franchise.

3. Then there is the award winning ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. Now this one is something that really makes you wonder how movie makers can take all sorts of liberties while stirring up emotions and a sense of ‘belief’ among audiences. You’ll all agree that the climax of the film is pretty gripping. Especially the last scene where ‘Jamal Malik’ the ‘chai wala’ wins a crore rupees amidst a high tension scene and then runs to the railway station wearing the same clothes to meet his beau, ‘Latika’ later that night who incidentally happens to see him on TV before the escape and gets to tell him she is safe. If you remember, that Salim (Jamal’s brother) had handed over his phone to Latika and that was the only number that Jamal knew to ‘phone a friend’. But that is not the real mistake.  What really got us wondering is when and in which country; in the history of the ‘Who wants to be a millionaire’ series were the finals shown ‘live’? Isn’t that a recorded program? Then how on earth could all of the above even take place around the same time?

4. And then there is another award winning movie built around the only universal religion in India i.e. Cricket! We are of course talking of ‘Lagaan’, the epic  battle for our rights and freedom all pegged on a nail biting cricket match which had us on the edge of our seats for sure. Lagaan is set to take place in the small village of Champaner, in western India during the year 1893.  While there are contradicting reports available online, in the movie, each over had six balls to be bowled – something that came into effect much later. So much for perfection!

5. Coming up next is the mindless entertainer ‘Housefull’ starring Akshay & Deepika in lead roles. While a lot can be attributed to the fact that ‘no one really’ cares what happened in the movie considering the genre, what is noteworthy is that the production team actually managed to get ‘Santa and Banta’ from India all the way to the back entrance of the Queen’s palace. Not only that, in the climax just before the laughing begins, everyone almost together seem to be ‘getting a foul odour’ before they burst out. What may be interesting to note is that ‘Nitrous Oxide’ or ‘Laughing Gas’ has a slightly sweet odour and taste. So imagine 100 artists getting their expressions all wrong, all together we may add. But then, it’s Housefull. Who cares? Laugh away!

6. We also have ‘Three Idiots’ where not only does Aamir pull off the role of a college going kid while being in his 40’s while becoming the most coveted inventor of the century, but also has ‘Chatur Ramalingam’ from Uganda who joins Imperial College of Engineering. While everyone remembers the ‘Chamatkar v/s Balatkaar’ scene that had us falling off our chairs in movie theatres, if you look closely, there is a difference in the script that librarian ‘Dubeji’ was narrating to ‘Chatur’ as against what he actually says. Considering that he only learns by ‘rote’, how is that possible? Keep wondering.

7. Next up, scenes involving our Desi Greek God ‘Hrithik Roshan’ and Desi Geek ‘Uday Chopra’ and his best buddy ‘Abhishek Bacchan’ in Dhoom 2 where Hrithik has perfectly painted himself white or in a tone that matches the wall. He not only operates a small robot without being noticed [from some real dumb guards], he is shown as an aged garbage collector, in the next scene with not even a single drop of colour. That’s not all. To escape he plummets into a man-hole that ‘is melted’ and in less than five seconds, a great looking guy jumps out all dressed up. Talk of speed! Or don’t. It will make your mind go bonkers.
