Here’s a look at seven actors who braved the transition from the small screen to the silver one

Shah Rukh Khan

The reigning poster boy of small screen-turned-large actors; SRK’s fairytale transition from an Indian army commando in the 1988 television series Fauji to the Badshah of Bollywood still remains the stuff of legend among strugglers.

Pulkit Samrat

After shooting to success with Ekta Kapoor’s popular daily soap Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Pulkit Samrat reappeared after a hiatus of six years to mark his Bollwyood debut with Bittoo Boss and finally registered a hit with Fukrey. Not counting a spate of small roles in between, Pulkit seems to have finally found his footing in Bollywood and will soon be seen in John Abraham’s third venture into production, Hamara Bajaj. Which is just as well; because that face was too adorable to be reserved just for the small screen audiences.

Sushant Singh Rajput

After wooing over the masses with his lead role in the show Pavitra Rishta, Sushant broke several hearts when he decided to quit the show in favor of Bollywood and hit the big screen in a big way with Kai Po Che. Well, long as there is plenty of Sushant to see, you won’t find us complaining.

Ayushmann Khurana

From award winning theatre actor to champion of MTV Roadies 2 to television host extraordinaire to mega-successful Bollywood debutant – Man, it sure is good to be Ayushmann Khurrana.

Vidya Balan

In our minds she may be fixed as the ethereally beautiful Lalita from Parineeta, but apparently it was the small screen masses that had a slice of her first – Vidya began her tryst with showbiz back in 1995 with Ekta Kapoor’s wildly popular sitcom Hum Paanch, in addition to as many as sixty television commercials. It has been almost two decades since and Vidya hasn’t looked back once.

R Madhavan

After several years on the small screen roster, Madhavan dipped his toes in Bollywood waters with Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein and has since gifted the world of cinema with several memorable roles, including Ajay Rathod of Rang De Basanti and the adorable Farhan Qureshi of 3 Idiots.

Honorary Mention: Rajeev Khandelwal

After successfully making the transition from Ekta Kapoor chocolate boy to debutant extraordinaire, Rajeev Khandelwal appears to have fallen off the rails of the Bollywood bandwagon, but not for lack of talent. Rajeev sure has got the acting chops, as proved with his critically acclaimed big screen debut, Aamir.
