Our favourite royal couple, Prince William and Kate Middleton, have added a fresh chapter to their fairytale by announcing the arrival of a tiny bundle of joy to their happily ever after.
And you are cordially invited to join us in congratulating the blushing parents-to-be!
In 1981, Prince Charles and Princess Diana announced the birth of their first child amidst much fanfare, at a ceremony studded with ornate bouquets, gleaming silverware and sentimental speeches. Indeed, the then lord mayor of London, Sir Leaver, toasted the couple by saying that their marriage ‘glows with the everlasting lustre of a gold ingot.’ Cut to 31 years later and the formal ceremonies are nowhere in sight, the silverware meekly stands on the shelf and the glowing speeches have been traded for a crisply worded tweet. Yet, the excitement remains deafening, to say the least.
The buzz and covert whispers which started following the royal couple around, ever since they tied the knot last April, has now reached fever pitch: The Clarence House yesterday took to Twitter to announce that Kate Middleton is expecting a child, leaving 2980 followers to curiously lap up the sparsely worded tweet, “The Duke and Duchess are expecting a baby.”
In spite of the understated message, there was no stopping the media circus which promptly started hyperventilating, with around 9000 articles being published within 7 hours of the announcement. A Twitter account @RoyalFetus was quickly set up for the unborn child with tweets along the lines of, “I may not have the bones yet but I’m more important than everyone reading this!”
And even though the Duchess herself was unable to make a statement as she’s currently admitted to a hospital after being diagnosed with acute morning sickness, the Internet world has already declared that she is expecting twins with hair the colour of ginger brown. Closer home, this means that we can stop gasping every time baby Aradhya blinks and instead focus the spotlight on whether Elizabeth or Diana is a more likely name for the baby.
However, before you set about drawing up your own predictions for the royal baby, we advise you to hold your breath because the best is yet to come! According to the demands of age old tradition, only male heirs are allowed to ascend the throne. However, the law has now been broken and Kate’s child will be third in line to the throne, regardless of whether it’s a boy or a girl!
With that, we’d like to send the royal couple our heartiest congratulations and wish Kate the best of health in the months to come! Do drop in your wishes to the happy couple in the comments box below!
