So, do not fret or brood over the fact that this year end, you have nothing to do on the day that all the pubs and hotels have lured every Tom, Dick and Harry to celebrate at their own expense. Alcohol will flow, mistakes will happen, vomiting will be induced and those who do not drink will become the carriers of the drunken lot. Snap out of it; if you are at home this New Year, you haven’t missed a thing and you can still make it special.


A Table for one: At the end of the day, when you are back home, back to your comfort zone, don’t you feel a little used. Don’t you feel that you’ve been used a little more by the world, for what you are good at? Joker (from The Dark Knight) said, “If you’re good at something, never do it for free”; probably, making a place for yourself in this world, works in the same way. However, when you seize to exist, they find someone else to fill in for you. So, taking a little time out for yourself won’t do you any harm. Cook yourself a meal, shut the lights, light a candle and try to give things your perspective.

 
Fireworks for free: Everyone would be using fire crackers on that day, but when you are at a distance, just watching the skies full of colour; the experience is different. Obviously, you do not feel responsible for all the pollution and you get to enjoy the experience. So, walk out, get onto the promenade and steel a little excitement for no price at all.


Tripping on a quiet place: While the number of quiet places in the world is slowly reducing, there are still many places that you can make do with. For the person searching for a little peace, even a bathroom offers the most satisfactory conclusion to their longing of being left alone. No am not asking you to do the same, unless you are all guilty of such retreat, but you can always take a trip with a friend to quiet village near your city and see how they bring in the New Year.


Set Fire to the Rain: If you found the candlelight dinner a good idea, you can add this idea as finishing touch. All you have to do is to make a list of things you regret happened last year; when the clock strikes twelve, burn the list using the candle flame. It’s fun, as long as you write what you regret on paper and not any other material that will take ages to roast.


Movie and food: A good movie and comfort food is an excuse that must have already kept you away from socializing. So buy a film, run through some recipe books and cook something sinfully comforting. There is nothing better than a lovely film, a bowl of something deliciously cheesy and a glass of wine. Indulge yourself this New Year.
