Ben Kingsley in his various avatars has covered all that there is to see but has not had enough of playing the villain yet. In Iron Man 3, he’s back but neither half as peaceful as Gandhi nor as benign as Itzhak Stern in the Schindler’s List. Instead, he will play the villain, The Mandarin.

The trailer, as promised, released today on YouTube giving us an opportunity to see some of the filmed footage. It was enough, to give us an idea of what we should expect; when, Tony Stark says “…there’s a hundred people who want to kill me. I hope I can protect the one thing I can’t live without” one can be assured of something close to the end. 

Immediately after Stark’s voice-over ends we hear the voice of The Mandarin. If you’ve read the comics, you’ll know that The Mandarin is the archenemy of Iron Man; however, it is not from his appearance that you get a taste of dread but his ideas that spell out the bloodcurdling results that would ensue if he were to assume complete power. Besides, the Iron Man junkies should have guessed that The Mandarin was there all along, this time he will appear on-screen after fulfilling his belief of cleaning the world of all its villains before replacing them.

As we all know, the reason why we love Iron Man is not because he’s just another superhero but because the two earlier films are able to re-create and capture what the comics offer. Besides, the key aspect discussed in the entire series is that technology initiates power, and in a world sustained by technology, this philosophy becomes rather engaging.
