Blogs The Social Network vs Inception - God Awesome Movie Of The Year? Posted
November 19, 2010 @ 00:00 am For many movie buffs, it will be a fight between The Social Network and Inception for the coveted God-Awesome Hollywood Movie of the Year award (if we aren't counting Hissss). Already, in industry circles (we mean Lokhandwala), people are scoffing ab
But we are of the opinion that instead of whooping each other's a**ess straight up, it will come down to the last ‘Like' when votes are being counted for the award. Because right from the synopsis (Facebook movie vs Complicated s**t) to the execution (Dynamic vs Complicated s**t), the beauty here is how completely contrasting the two movies are to each other in every respect.
While The Social Network amazes you in how David Fincher make an edge-of-the-seat thriller-ish movie out of a straightforward plot, Inception awes you in how Christopher Nolan actually made the most convoluted of plots understandable (yes, we ACTUALLY understood it, ha! So there were like three levels within each other and then another limbo thingy.. and wait.. what happens at the end again?!).
Both movies rock And while Aaron Sorkin makes dry situations super fun with his slick and smart dialogue in The Social Network, even with dialogues that go “You create the world of the dream, you bring the subject into that dream, and they fill it with their subconscious" (WHAT!), we still had a grip on whatever the hell was happening in Inception (sort of).
With a relatively new cast that shines in the former, to a relatively old cast (Michael Caine makes the average age shoot up) that doesn't fail to deliver in any of the three (or was it four?) levels in the latter, the two movies will definitely score plenty of nominees for acting honours too. Heck, even Justin ‘lady-like' Timberlake got critical acclaim for The Social Network!
This article wins, either way Considering that both are massive hits that talk about love and redemption (yeah, we actually GET the deep stuff too), and that will probably be talked about as defining movies of their time (you heard it here, first!), it's not going to be easy to predict which movie will upstage the other at the awards. But one thing's for sure, no matter who wins, we are the ones who put the idea of the fight in your head, so go ahead, and like this article NOW! See, we can also do crazy stuff with the mind too… watch out, Nolan.
