June 15, 2012 @ 14:00 pm There are movies that make you think, there are movies that make you sleep, that make you dream and then there are those that make you gape in awe...And then there's Prometheus; which makes you gape in awe and think that you are in an unreal dream wh
That should sum up the movie review and make you go watch it already; but if you aren’t already convinced, here’s more on the movie that you should know.
After 30 years of staying away from sci-fi horror, Ridley Scott is back to doing what he does best and what a job he has done! Prometheus was written as a two part prequel to the, much acclaimed, four part ALIEN franchise but eventually decided to make one helluva movie! Through the movie, enough care is taken to ensure that the diehard Alien fans aren’t alienated and neither are the first time Alien-goers put directly into Alien territory.
Prometheus is set in the year 2089 where archeologists Elizabeth Shaw and Charlie Holloway have discovered a Star Map amongst several unconnected ancient cultures across the World. They go on to interpret this as an invitation from the forerunners of humanity and in their words “Our Engineers”. They convince Peter Weyland, the elderly CEO of Weyland Corporation to fund the entire mission which involves following the map to the distant moon LV-223 on the scientific space vessel, Prometheus. Essential to the plot is the crew on board and the most important crew member is David, who is an android designed to be indistinguishable from humans. David wants to be acknowledged and praised for his brilliance and of that, Michael Fassbender leaves nothing to be craved for.
On the acting front, the movie has its fair set of Hollywood horror movie clichés and characters but that doesn’t hamper the pace of the movie even a bit. In fact from the word go, the movie is an absolute treat to the eyes. Shot entirely on 3D cameras, if there is one perfect way to see this movie; it is on a giant IMAX screen where the world comes to life like never before. The last movie that made us gape in awe was Avatar and Prometheus leaves nothing short to meet the expectations if not exceed them!
Towards the end, the movie becomes spellbindingly fast and everything just falls into place like a jigsaw puzzle which just found its crucial part. After that, the characters become unpredictable, the sequences dizzying and the end is nothing like what you thought it would be. Notably though, the movie ends on a note which very easily ties into the 1979 movie, ALIEN, as well as leaves enough scope for yet another crazy sequel; which we don’t think is a bad idea considering this genre really lacked some originality and it definitely missed Ridley Scott.
All we can say is go watch the movie; it’s worth every penny and if you are a diehard science fiction addict, this movie is sure to have you making your own science theories at the end of it, hoping for some real life Weyland Corporation to fund your exploits.
