It is a done thing, if you get lyrics penned by Gulzar and music composed by AR Rahman, any song will viral. Obviously, so did 'Challa', the brand new musical offering from Yash Raj's baby, Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
Obviously, no one is denying that Rabbi Shergill’s soulful voice gave Sufi connoisseurs much to reminisce about. So, what happened? Well, Shahrukh tweeted the venue and the digital mice followed suit. Here is what he said, “Challa will be out on the Oct 1 (Monday). Looking forward to it, haven't seen it since we finished shooting it.” Then, within hours of its release, the view count reached 25,000; now, it is around 1.3 million and counting.
Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Yash Chopra’s last film, is most definitely going to be a big blockbuster; everything about it is big, even Shahrukh Khan’s instrument has been made bigger, from a mandolin in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge to a guitar in Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
The song, Challa, is supposed to be Yash Chopra’s favorite among the others and giving Shahrukh the center stage in this one, he has allowed the audience to bask underneath the resonating charm of their much loved romantic hero. As a music channel, we must admit that the song has been growing on us; it is very well composed, especially for the acoustic feel that encourages the listener to imagine that they are sitting in a cafe listening to the lyrics unfold.
Besides, you don’t need to be a Shahrukh Khan fan to listen to the song; as long as you appreciate good music, strung together with meaningful lyrics, the song promises to be a wonderful way to start or end your day.
You may also feel tempted to laugh at the end of the song because Katrina drops some change into Shahrukh’s donation box after he is done singing; so much so for his hard work.
