Because like they tell us in school; read the question once, read it twice and only after you have read it for the third time, try to answer it. Like many, I had only read the Hansel and Gretel part but there are two more words after that: Witch Hunters. So, what exactly is “Witch Hunters”? Let us begin by recalling the story of Hansel and Gretel.

A boy and girl or Hansel and Gretel get lost in the woods after the birds have eaten the bread crumbs that Hansel had dropped to make a trail, for their journey back home. Lost in the woods, they wander for days finally stumbling upon a cottage made of sugar goodies. Hungry and famished, the children begin buy eating the chocolate coated rooftop when an elderly lady emerges from within; she lures them inside the house with the promise of soft beds and delicious food. In reality, she is a wicked witch who lives on a diet of children.

The movie takes off from where the fairytale ends; the tale ends with the two children escaping after lowering the witch into an oven. So, if we were to think in the same manner as co-writer and director Tommy Wirkola; we must accept that after murdering someone as kids, Hansel and Gretel aren’t really scared of death and in a certain sense, makes them Mr. and well, Ms. Smith of the woods. The only difference is that they are out to hunt the Witches, making this film gory and bloody.

And, just by the way, these aren’t the kind of witches we’ve seen in the Harry Potter franchise, but they are, like Richard Fodor on YouTube puts it, “Marilyn Manson everywhere”. You must go ahead and watch the trailer on YouTube, but I found it completely deplorable because of its hideous resemblance to Twilight movies; besides, I can imagine them waiting to release a Hansel and Gretel Part 2, if all goes well.
