So, what are the pros? Well, Mary Kom comes from the north-eastern state of Manipur; unfortunately, the people of the north-east have been victims of political unrest. Today, more so because of the privileges given to the security forces posted in that region; many Assamese feel that they have been exploited, which never gets highlighted in the media. Hence, we are proud of Mr. Bhansali for bringing similar intricacies to light.
However, we have been spectators of Mr. Bhansali’s work for a while now; we know that his brand of cinema has never been deprived of drama in all its richness. So, in case he decides to do the same here, the film is sure to be booed out of the cinemas in no time. Another, con which in the opinion of the Twitteratti is well justified is that Mr. Bhansali has chosen Priyanka Chopra to do the role. Probably, that could have been an SOS measure, but it surely is not.
Besides, the North-East has been the only region that still takes theatre and stage dramas very seriously. Maybe, he could have just picked out fresh talent from there; in the long-run, his selection would give Bollywood its first North-East talent. Also, now that news of Priyanka Chopra, as representing Mary Kom, is out, many have already started doubting whether Sanjay Leela Bhansali would do anything other than lean towards his former expertise instead of trying out something new.
