Spoiler Alert: Iron Man 3

"Nothing's been the same since New York. I can't sleep. And when I do, I have nightmares." Those are the words that have been haunting us, ever since Marvel Studio released a two minute trailer, a couple of weeks ago. To make the wait
120 seconds. That’s how long the trailer released two weeks ago by Marvel Studios lasts. From a defeated Tony Stark trudging in the snow to a shrieking Gwyneth Paltrow being held captive, the signs are all pointing to an epic superhero adventure in the offing!
However, before we descend into the land of speculation and dish out some juicy spoilers, here’s what Marvel Studios has to say about its third Iron Man offering:
Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?
Which raises as many questions as it answers. The Iron Man suit is increasingly taking on a life of its own. (Notice how it springs to Downey’s hand with a bit too much force? Not to mention the chilling scene where Gwyneth and Robert are shaken awake by the Suit.) So does this make Mandarin’s job easier or will the Suit stand guard for its master?
To put us out of our misery, stunt co-ordinator Andrew Lawden sweetly stepped up. “Well, there’s going to be a big fight sequence with The Mandarin, who’s the main villain, which will involve none other than forty different iron man suits. There’s an amazing rescue where The Mandarin basically wants to bring down the American government and kill the President, and he launches an attack on Air Force One. All of them – the President and his men and staff – get sucked out of the plane, and Iron Man rescues them by forming this amazing human chain in the sky.
“There’s some pretty spectacular stuff that goes on. There’s an amazing sequence where he has this rooftop house that he builds to store all his Iron Man suits, and it gets attacked by The Mandarin and these gunships. But apparently he needs this Iron Man army to go up against The Mandarin’s forces.” Sweet of him to set the record straight but we are going cross eyed trying to figure out how many confidentiality clauses that statement broke!
The movie is said to derive its storyline from the Extremis (2005), which sees Tony Stark creating a nanotechnology that allows his Iron Man armour to form from within his body. How and where does that fit in with Mandarin’s plans to blow up the American Government we don’t know yet, but one thing’s for certain:
We’ve seen the magic Robert Downey Jr. and Shane Black can create when they get together – stretch your memory back to 2005’s hit Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and you’ll know what we mean. And what with Dark Knight’s early retirement and Captain America taking a yearlong leave of absence, the universe is Iron Man’s for the taking!
