If you were to pick from a list of worthy contenders: who would be your number one choice for the job of directing the new Star Wars movie?

Oh! But are you aware of the upcoming film? After Disney purchased Star Wars creator George Lucas’s Lucasfilm for $4 billion in October, they announced that they were planning to release a new part to the popular sci-fi saga, which has been a financial success since 1977. A magazine reported that they were finalizing the deal with J.J. Abrams who is the co-creator of the popular television series Lost and is busy finishing work on Star Trek Into Darkness.

It is well known how George Lucas changed our lives, however, after having sold the entire property to Disney, he is no longer interested in doing what he once did and has moved on. After the Star Wars success, the now proprietors of Lucasfilm need a replacement for George Lucas. Initially, we thought the compass would point at Christopher Nolan or Wes Anderson, but that was just a thought. Indeed, a week back, Lucasfilm made an official announcement declaring Abrams’ as the director of "Star Wars: Episode VII," which will see the light of day sometime in 2015.

“I've consistently been impressed with J.J. as a filmmaker and storyteller. He's an ideal choice to direct the new Star Wars film and the legacy couldn't be in better hands,” said George Lucas without a hint of doubt, which obviously means that he has had a change of mind and does want to see his brainchild delivered into the right hands. On the other hand, Abrams’ excitement was evident in his reply to the press. “You know, obviously, it's so early," he replied. "I can just say what I want to do: I want to do the fans proud. I want to make sure the story is something that touches people. And we're just getting started. I'm very excited.”
