The 55th annual Grammy awards are just about more than a week away and fans are gearing up to watch some of their favourite stars of 2012 come alive on screen. It is the one day when the recording industry honors songs and albums with artistic merit and decent sales through the year. With a fantastic line-up of musicians all set to perform and another list of interesting artists nominated, it looks like an event not to be missed.
However, not everyone is this excited about it and many have publicly expressed their shock and anger at being snubbed by The Grammy’s.
Here’s a list of 5 artists who might give the Grammy’s a miss this year:
So, even though the otherwise outspoken rapper has maintained her calm and expressed that she doesn't mind not having received any nominations, she did hint that the Academy had an ulterior motive for shutting her out. "I think that the Grammys had a different reason, that I do not want to discuss . . . and that's just between me and them," she said. "But I respect their organization and I'll get a Grammy eventually. I'm not worried about it." The rapper failed to garner a single nod for this year's Grammys despite a year filled with chart hits. Her only appearance in the nominees list is for her collaborative work with Alicia Keys, which isn’t even her own song.
It’s no surprise Justin Bieber was left disappointed after not being nominated for a Grammy this year, but it was the star’s manager Scooter Braun who took to Twitter immediately to vent his frustration. "I just plain DISAGREE," Braun tweeted. "The kid deserved it. Grammy board u blew it on this one." "The hardest thing to do is transition, keep the train moving. the kid delivered. Huge succesful album, sold out tour, and won people over...," Braun continued over several tweets. "...this time he deserved to be recognized and I dont really have any kind nice positive things to say about a decision i dont agree with. So to all those nominated...you do deserve it. You worked hard and u earned it. Just feel like so did JB. To his fans...looks like we get to stay the underdog a little longer. #BRINGIT." Recently, Bieber also came out in full support of his manager, expressing that he fully agrees with him.
The Korean pop star whose hit “Gangnam Style” had everyone from Madonna to Djokovic and the West Indies cricket team galloping in circles didn’t get any nods from the Recording Academy. Sure, Gangnam Style may not be your regular Grammy fare, but you can't overlook its global appeal or the fact that its video hit nearly 1 billion views on YouTube. It felt like that he could have been a dark-horse for Best New Artist, but certainly Gangnam wasn't just a viral phenomenon, it reached Number 2 on the Hot 100. Fans across the globe expressed their angst on this particular snub quite blatantly.
This particular snub unleashed the wrath of the 1D fans all over social media websites. To say that they were displeased, would be an understatement. Some fans of the band have threatened to completely boycott watching the ceremony. One fan even called the news "a sign of the apocalypse" in one Twitter post while another claimed that the artists were "over qualified" for the event. Although, the band’s mentor Simon Cowell isn’t really stressing about it and is quite hopeful that things would be quite different next year.
You know when the Little Monsters of the world unite in their outrage; all is not well in Gaga land. But, the fact still remains that Lady Gaga didn't get a single nomination even though she released a single, "Marry the night," that made it to the eligibility cut. All I’m saying is that she could have snuck into the Best Dance Recording category or one of the Pop categories, but voters shut her out. Hell hath no fury like a Mother Monster scorned. Although, I do believe she won’t miss the opportunity of making a grand entrance at The Grammy’s for the world. So, definitely expect another ‘Gaga moment’, this year too.
