Here's a quick preview to the flagship marketing festival at MICA, Micanvas written by Ashwini Kulkarna at MTV Campus Diaries.
The flagship marketing festival at MICA, Micanvas, from 2nd to 4th November’2012 witnessed serious participation from across the country. The best brains of various business schools came together to show-off their skills and why wouldn’t they? There was a huge booty at stake!
Last Manager Standing saw tough competition. The second round on campus involved shortlisted participants working in a simulated environment of constant pressure and crazy deadlines. They had to go through a stringent routine of direct sales where they competed with each other to sell food. A bazaar was set in motion for whacky dishes – Cheese Bomb, the Ultimate Sandwich, Cheese Choco Pie and more.
Global Tadka invited contestants to capitalize on globalization and the new wave of entrepreneurship in India; by creating a market of indigenous Indian products and services abroad. This event went truly international with an MBA student from France’s ESCEM participating.
The three days were filled with a variety of events – an RJ Workshop, Quizzes, Logo Hunt, Metrotopia,JAM, Fortify and much much more.
This year Micanvas introduced a semi-pro band event – E#. A huge hit, E# made a beautiful winter evening in MICAs OAT, upbeat and entertaining. Supposed to be ‘semi-pro’, the event saw bands of high calibre.
With Karoake, Micanvas ensured that the campus did not sleep. The excitement kept soaring with the dance face-off, Juxtapose. In true Step-Up style, the participants danced to please the crowd. They tried to score with western, hip-hop,contemporary, Indian classical, Indian folk. This was a genuine display of skill and the contestants only fell short of actual swords and guns. You can never go wrong with Salsa, and Micanvas stepped it up a notch with their evening Salsa workshop, in the beautiful campus.
Comedy Central’s Laughter Riot lived upto its name. The comedians were students and professionals who entertained with élan. In the true stand-up comedy style, they even made Micanvas the butt of a few of their jokes. It’s a good thing the committee was busy preparing for the concert lined up that evening!
Adrenaline, the much anticipated Bollywood night, saw performances by Benny Dayal, Anushka Manchanda and DJ Suketu. This was a perfect way to end Micanvas. Everyone let loose and danced away into the night.
These were three exciting days and Micanvas is getting bigger and better every year. The next year’s committee has probably begun planning Micanvas 2013.Micanvas 2013 - processing in progress!
