We wish the author of Harry potter a joyous year ahead.
J.K. Rowling (Joanne "Jo" Rowling) is the writer behind the best selling Harry Potter series. The Potter books have gained worldwide attention, won multiple awards, sold more than 400 million copies and been the basis for a popular series of films.J.K. Rowling (b. July 31, 1965, in Chipping Sodbury, England) became an international literary sensation when the first three installments of her Harry Potter children's book series took over the top three slots of The New York Times best-seller list. The phenomenal response to Rowling's books culminated in 2000, when Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire became the fastest-selling book in history.
Apart from writing the Potter novels, Rowling is perhaps equally famous for her "rags to riches" life story, in which she progressed from living on benefits to multi-millionaire status within five years. The 2008 Sunday Times Rich List estimated Rowling's fortune at £560 million ($798 million), ranking her as the twelfth richest woman in Britain. Forbes ranked Rowling as the forty-eighth most powerful celebrity of 2007, and Time magazine named her as a runner-up for its 2007 Person of the Year, noting the social, moral, and political inspiration she has given her fandom. She has become a notable philanthropist, supporting such charities as Comic Relief, One Parent Families, Multiple Sclerosis Society of Great Britain, and the Children's High Level Group. Rowling's mother died of multiple sclerosis, and because of this she became severely depressed for a period of time.
Real people are the basis for her characters, including one of her most famous, Gilderoy Lockhart, though she refuses to say on whom he is based.
Rowling has announced that she had written her first book aimed at adults. To be published in the fall of 2012, The Casual Vacancy has been described as a dark comedy about a local election in the small English town of Pagford. Rowling is also reportedly at work on a new Harry Potter-related book as well. On her website, she announced that she will write "an encyclopedia of Harry's world" and the royalties from this volume will be donated to charity.
Harry Potter's first birthday took place on 31 July, 1981. AfterHarry received his first and only toy broomstick from Sirius Black, his godfather, his father, James, said he was a natural-bornQuidditch player.Later, Lily Potter sent Harry's godfather a thank-you letter, which also described the deaths of the McKinnons and "Wormy's" expression. In 1997, both Harry and Severus Snape read this letter of Lily's.Harry did not read the second page of the letter until 1998.So today is not only J.K Rowling's birthday but also her charachter,Harry Potter's birthday.
