Buzz TORRES WINS THE GOLDEN BOOT Posted
July 02, 2012 @ 00:00 am Spain's Fernando Torres wins the Golden Boot Award at the Euro 2012 Championship after helping his team win the cup!
Spain striker Fernando Torres won the Euro 2012 Golden Boot Award as joint top-scorer after a goal and an assist in the 4-0 win over Italy at the Euro 2012 finals in Kiev.
Torres, who came in as a substitute for Cesc Fabregas in the 75th minute, scored the third goal in the 84th minute and created Juan Mata's goal in the 88th minute. The Chelsea striker’s tally of three goals and an assist was equal to Germany's Mario Gomez, but due to less minutes played, Torres was awarded under UEFA's tiebreaker criteria. Torres, who scored two goals against Ireland, became the only player to have scored in successive European Championship finals after scoring the winner at the Euro 2008 finals in Vienna.
Four years ago, Torres scored the only goal in the decider against Germany but it was team-mate David Villa who finished as leading scorer.
