TDIM - Remembering John Lennon
Posted On 8th December, 2012 @ 18:21 pm by MTV EDITOR

This Day in Music, we remember John Lennon on his Death Anniversary.

“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy.’ They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.”---John Lennon

John Lennon was not to see his father after the age of five and his mother was struck by a truck when he was only 17 years old, but she left him behind with an aim in life and that was to find happiness in everything he did. There is no doubt that it was this inspiration that made him aspire and respire through The Beatles and music that still works up magic when played today.

John Lennon was brought up by his aunt Mimi and she often got worked up to see young Lennon dedicating much of his time to music instead of studying; to come to think about it, aunt Mimi once said in a fit of anger: “The guitar's all very well, John, but you'll never make a living out of it.” How was she to know that, her nephew would end up changing the life of so many people?

Strangely enough, I find no one else to blame but destiny for the split of The Beatles very early in their careers. Yet, we got to see a very different side of John during that period; indeed, we had a clear picture of what The Beatles were capable of on their own. John used his stardom and music to bring peace and happiness to the people of America during the Vietnam War.

Peace was won at last, but Lennon was not there to enjoy it beyond the 8th of December. This day in music, we celebrate a man who celebrated peace, love and happiness through his music.
