A lot of EDM’s been coming our way; recently, the pioneers of trance music, Armin Van Buuren, came down to Mumbai; Alesso, Deniz Koyu, Cosmo Klein and Jean Elan, were the highlights in the MTV Bloc Party; and, Swedish House Mafia did perform after a teaser.

2013: The Time for Trance

The best performance of them all was that of DJ Hardwell, yet that is a matter of preference; we still need to see the ambience that Tiesto brings later this month. Most certainly, Electronic Dance Music is building a huge fan base in India. In an interview Armin Van Buuren had cited: “I was here in 2008, performing in front of a crowd of about 160 people. But when I landed this time, I was told that the venue was a sellout.” And by that he meant that he performed for over 10,000 people! This concert was the celebration of the 600th episode of his radio show, A State of Trance. Hence, the name ASOT 600 (For all those who were clueless about this particularly annoying cipher.)

In case, you are still in the dark about this genre of music, Buuren summarizes the journey of this music as “Dance music first exploded in Northern America and quickly spread to parts of Belgium, Germany, Holland and the UK. When I was growing up, in the early 90s, dance music was all over the place. Maybe in the next few years, there’ll be DJs from all over the world.”

We do have our own EDM artists; these are a few artists whose music most have enjoyed and appreciated: DJ Korah, Nikhil Chinapa, DJ Pearl, Arjun Vagale, Dualist Inquiry and Anish Sood. If you have any artists that you love and want us to listen to their tunes, let us know in the comments below!
