This Day In Music - 12th September

Vengaboyswere aEurodancepop groupbased inAmsterdam. The brainchild of two Dutch producersWessel van Diepenand Dennis van den Driesschen (Danski and Delmundo), they enjoyed commercial success in the late 1990s. They are best known for their twoUKnumber onesingles, "Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!" and "We're Going to Ibiza" and theirU.S.Top 40hit, "We Like to Party". The group consists of lead vocalist Kim Sasabone, vocalist Denise Post-Van Rijswijk and the male dancers Robin Pors and JJ van Zon. They have sold an estimated 15 million records worldwideand are renowned for being one of the most influential Eurodance pop groups of the early 21st century. On 2 May 2001, TheWorld Music Awardsawarded Vengaboys with the award for best selling dance group of the year.

"We're Going toIbiza" is the title of a song by DutchEurodancegroup theVengaboys. It was released in August 1999 as the sixth and final single fromThe Party Album. The song was one of the Vengaboys' most successful singles. The song was based onTypically Tropical's 1975 number one hit "Barbados," with modified lyrics. While "Boom Boom Boom Boom" was still on the UK chart, "We're Going to Ibiza" reached number one on theUK Singles Chart, as the previous single had also done.

The song is infamous for the mis-pronunciation of "Ibiza" by the vocalists in the title line. However the pronunciation used in the song is very common inDutch.

The video features the members of the Vengaboys, depicted as animated characters, traveling toIbizawhile passing by many places including Rome and Moscow. The opening scene is atToronto'scity hall. Incidentally, in the video the Washington D.C. snapshot showcases theClinton-Lewinsky Incident. It can be found 1:40 into the video, and lasts for about 4 seconds.
