Marshall Bruce Mathers III, better known by his stage name Eminem and by his alter ego Slim Shady, is an American rapper, record producer, songwriter, and actor. In addition to his solo career, Eminem is a member of his group D12, as well as one half of the hip hop duo Bad Meets Evil, alongside Royce da 5'9". Eminem is one of the world's best-selling music artists and is the best-selling artist of the 2000s.

On This Day In Music, Eminem was the subject of a sick Internet hoax after MTV reported that the rapper had been killed in a car crash en route to a party.

Reports of Eminem's weekend demise were false. The rapper was the subject of a sick internet hoax, with reputable news agencies running a story that the rapper had been killed in a car crash.

MTV reported that Eminem had been killed in a car crash en route to a party, after the rental car that he was driving swerved off the road and crashed into roadside cars. MTV's website reportedly claimed to have a photograph of the accident and eyewitness accounts of the tragedy.

It appears that the reports started as a hoax email and the rapper's record company have been quick to stress that there is absolutely no truth to the story.
