TDIM - Green Day topped the UK Album Chart with 'American Idiot'

A bloodied hand holding a heart-shaped grenade: perhaps a symbol of inhumanity, injustice or a representation of violence at the cost of harmony. Whatever message it lends; the album did distinguish the band from other punks who hadn’t yet found a word to rhyme with cat. Yes, Green Day has progressed after a step in the right direction. They had spent enough time away from the hullabaloo, to give us a well thought out piece of opera rock.

In 2005, on this day, they were at no. 1 on the UK album chart with their seventh album 'American Idiot.' The album went on to be nominated for seven Grammy Awards, winning the Best Rock Album of 2005.
