Buzz TDIM - Lagaan was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at The Academy Awards Posted
February 12, 2013 @ 00:50 am On This Day In Music, Lagaan was nominated for The Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards.
Amazon.com has its own list of “The 100 Greatest World Music Albums of All Time” in which the soundtrack of Lagaan ranked 44th. Here is what the Los Angeles Times put it: “(the) songs and dances are not mere interludes inserted in the action, bringing it to a halt—a Bollywood trademark—but are fully integrated into the plot and marked by expressive, dynamic singing and dancing that infuse a historical drama with energy and immediacy.” The man who should be credited for this acknowledgment is A.R. Rahman; he was also given a national award for best music. The reason we are reminding you about this feat is because on this day in music, Lagaan was nominated for the best foreign language film at the Academy Award nominations ceremony.
