This Day in Music: Black Eyed Peas hit #1 Spot On The U.S Singles Chart With ‘Boom Boom Pow’

On this day in 2009, the track ‘Boom Boom Pow’ by Black Eyed Peas started a 12 week run at No.1 on the US singles chart becoming the group’s first single to do so.
On its release in March, the track debuted at No.71 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Spurred by heavy airplay and the music video release on MTV, the song rocketed to No.1 position in just 4 weeks. The single has since sold 6 million copies in the U.S., won multiple awards and been downloaded 6,594,000 times, making it the #9 most downloaded song of all time. ‘Boom Boom Pow’ also made it to No.7 on the Billboard Hot 100 Songs of the Decade list.
The music video depicting a digitized future, has received more than 140 million views on YouTube till date. After its 12 week stay at the top, the track was toppled by the band’s next single ‘I Gotta Feeling”.
