Tete-a-tete with your VJ

MTV to you is…

A voice of the youth

Do you support any social causes?

Not for now but I would love to be part of animal’s rights, women’s rights, breast cancer support, the visually impaired and many, many more!

How many tattoos do you have?

I have 4 tattoos- a ribbon bow on my wrist, a fairy on my lower back (which I’m getting fully re-done soon!) and two Elfish tattoos- one on my ankle which reads, 'Once Upon a Time' and one on the nape of my neck which reads, 'Destiny'. I’m getting a string of orchids on my foot soon too!

What is your ultimate fashion statement?

I don’t really have a fashion statement, as such; to me fashion is a way of expressing myself. I’m always wearing my mood or how I feel that day. I also love having fun with fashion- don’t take it too seriously.

You've got a great body, do you work out?

Thanks! I do my practice (yoga) daily, along with cardio sessions. my cardio sessions consist of about half an hour on the treadmill or spinning bike and then 15 or 20 minutes on the cross trainer and then I use the skipping rope. I also go for a jog to carter road sometimes and watch the sunset whilst jogging- it’s one of my most favorite things to do- I love sunsets. Some people move to fast in this city and don’t stop and observe the only thing constant daily in our lives till we are on this planet- the beauty of nature.

So what would do you say is your biggest strength & weakness…

Wow! I really don’t know the answer to this! I think I’m still young and I’m still discovering myself and have a lot of things I still need to figure out about myself.

Are you seeing anyone…and if not, what kind of a man would you date/what is your idea of the perfect man?

No I’m not seeing anybody. I'm happy being single. I don’t think I really have a 'perfect man' as such. He just has to be somebody I can connect with and who understands me. I have to be able to have good conversation and be comfortable with him at every level! Also he has to be tall! hahaha

Who matters the most in your life?

Most definitely my family. They have always been a pillar of strength to me and always will be no matter what- and I'm talking about every single one of them! My Nani, Nana, Brother, Mum, Masi and Mama!

Are you religious?

Well when my dad passed away (I was a year and a half) my younger brother Rohan and I moved to Kenya and were brought up by Nana-Nani who are really religious. I was brought up going to the Gurdwara almost thrice a week. Sikhism has been a part of my upbringing and will always be a part of me and I will always respect it. I do definitely believe there is a universal force or power which has created all living things; mankind, the planets, destiny etc.

Are you working on any projects currently, other than your shows on MTV?

Yes. I just shot a small cameo for Shakun Batra’s new film with Imran and Kareena. It’s a small but fun couple of scenes; it was an honor to be part of the project, of course. I’m also a part of Navdeep Singh’s film; ‘Basra’ which is based on narcotics and human trafficking which I hope should start soon. I really look forward to that film to begin.

On a day off, what do you enjoy doing the most?

I call myself a yoga junkie! I started off with Astanga and then went on to doing lots of different workshops like Acro, Bikram, Vinyasa Flow, Goddess, Rocket Yoga. I started practicing in January 2007. I also did the Reiki course recently which has encouraged me to meditate as well. I also love watching films. I love all kinds of cinema from all over the world. If I had to pick an all time favorite film it would be a tough choice but perhaps Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind is one of my many favorites. I also watch a lot of TV shows and read. I don’t really enjoy novels. I read more books based on life, lessons learnt, spirituality and philosophy. I write poems as well. Oh and I love fashion and clothes! I dress up every single day. I believe 'everyday is a fashion show and the world is your runway"

Toughest?

The toughest? I don’t know if I would ever find my work tough, because I enjoy tough. It’s always great to constantly push yourself and always enjoy difficulties as they are part of everything in life. Plus, when I am working and doing something I’m so passionate about, I enjoy every moment and second of it.

What’s the best part of your job?

I love that I can just be myself and that people get to know me for me.

How did VJing happen?

I’ve always wanted to be an actress. I think I was born knowing I wanted to act. I grew up wanting to be like my dad. I started my acting classes in Mombasa, Kenya (where I grew up) at the age of 8 with the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. They had workshops with teachers and examiners from the academy in London. I also did half my A levels at Arts Educational Schools of London in London. I left before my A2 and came to Mumbai to start training here. To me, I really would love to be part of intelligent cinema with great scripts where I get to play a character. I’m so passionate about it!
